Simone Linder-Patton
Simone Linder-Patton, an early career South Australian Contemporary Ceramic Artist.
Previously a studio tenant at JamFactory, Seppeltsfield, Ceramics Studio Simone is now based at her home studio Studio Built 1921 in Birdwood, Adelaide Hills.
Working in a range of clay bodies Simone uses alternative firing techniques to explore the confluence of the elements on her hand-built pieces.
Simone’s current work has evolved from searching for place and the placement of objects within a defined landscape.
Residing in the cooler climate of the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia. Originally from England Simone emigrated to Australia with her family in 2005.
Simone graduated with a bachelor’s degree in visual arts, majoring in ceramics in 2016 and in 2017 a visual arts honours’ degree from Flinders University and TAFESA.
In 2016 Simone had the opportunity to travel to the Pottery Workshop Jingdezhen, China, for a six-week artists residency funding assisted by the Helpmann Academy. There she attended many workshops learning new skills and techniques including carving on Porcelain. Simone has since taught workshops in the Chinese carving technique in Australia and New Zealand.
2023 First Prize winner in the Adelaide Potters’ SALA Northcote Pottery Award, 2022 Runner Up Prize winner in the traditional category of the Watershed Creative Art Prize, Salisbury, 2021 First Prize winner in the Adelaide Potters’ SALA Clayworks Award, and a prize winner in the ceramics division of Campbelltown art show. Finalist in the 2021 Adelaide Hills Landscape Art Prize, the Heysen Landscape Prize 2020, winner of the 2019 St Ignatius Art Show Sponsors prize. Simone’s award winning work is regularly exhibited in group exhibitions throughout Australia. Participating in South Australian annual Fringe and SALA Festivals.
Simone has also exhibited at the Hill Smith Gallery, the Peter Walker Gallery and the Helpmann Graduate Exhibition 2018 where she was awarded the inaugural ‘JamFactory Award’ and mentorship. Simone has also completed a mentorship with Stephanie James Manttan, wheel throwing in Porcelain, a two week wood firing residency with Ben Richardson at Ridgeline Pottery, Tasmania and a weeks wood firing course with Duncan Shearer at Rahu Road Pottery in New Zealand.
In 2018 Simone became a studio tenant at the JamFactory Seppeltsfield, the Barossa where she made work and taught workshops and regular pottery lessons for four years.
Currently based in her recently renovated studio Studio Built 1921 in Birdwood, South Australia, Simone creates unique functional and sculptural ceramic forms. and teaches a range of classes and workshops.
